This morning the Irish Daily Mirror published an article entitled "HUMAN FIREBALL HORROR" that contained an explicitly graphic description of a suicide method.
- Media discussion of suicide is vital but research shows that graphic descriptions of suicide methods can be potentially triggering for vulnerable readers and lead to copycat behaviour.
- Moreover, such a level of detail can be extremely upsetting to readers who have lost loved-ones to suicide.
If you feel that graphic reporting of suicide methods is inappropriate,
Remember one call, email, or letter can change the way the media portray suicide in the future.
